Q: What is the purpose of the SA program?
A: Our primary purpose is it stay sexually sober and to help other sexaholics achieve sobriety.
Q: What do you mean by “sexual sobriety” in SA?
A: We do not speak for those outside our program; we can speak only for ourselves. For the married sexaholic, sexual sobriety means that we have no form of sex with the self, or with partners other than the spouse. For the unmarried sexaholic, sexual sobriety means freedom from sex of any kind. And for all of us, single and married, sexual sobriety also includes progressive victory over lust.
Q: What do you mean by “spouse?”
A: In SA’s sobriety definition, the term “spouse” refers to one’s partner in a marriage between a man and a woman.
Q: Do you have SA meetings in Rochester?
A: Yes, we have currently 8 in-person meetings in the Rochester area, and 12 on Zoom.
Q: How safe are SA meetings? I’m well-known in the community. Will anyone know I’ve been
there?
A: Our meetings follow a strict code of anonymity. We normally identify ourselves by our first names (and you can use whatever name you like.) We protect the anonymity of all our members.
Q: Are the meetings run by professional therapists? Is it like group therapy? What kind of
treatment do you offer?
A: SA is not a sex therapy or group therapy and offers no treatment of any kind. There are no professional leaders at SA meetings; our meetings are run by the members themselves. SA is a 12 Step Program of recovery from lust and sex addiction, based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Q: Okay, that sounds good. But how much does it cost to join?
A: SA meetings are absolutely free. There are no dues or fees for SA membership.
Q: How can I become a member?
A: Call the number below. Two of our members will arrange a meeting at a public place, for our mutual safety, usually a fast-food restaurant. We’ll tell you our stories and listen to yours. The only requirement for SA membership is a desire to stop lusting and become sexually sober.
Q: What if I just want to talk to somebody?
A: We will be glad to talk with you. Please leave your number and the best time to reach you, and we will call you back.
